Edited by Rayne Hall
I have to be quite honest, when I received this book, or collection of stories, I was a bit hesitant.
I had never delved into, or really felt compelled to read about, the Steampunk genre.
When I finally sat down to read, I began to skim the pages. The stories, in just those few
quick seconds on the first few pages, drew me in. I have always loved the Victorian Era, and especially love stories
that were set in that era. But for some reason, I was hesitant still.
I had never once thought about how the Victorian Era could mesh with machine, but
the stories that Rayne Hall included made that a reality.
My favorite story, in all honesty was the very first that I read. “Tommy Tales”. As I was reading, the first
thought that came to mind was “Aha! THIS is what they were trying to portray in the movie Wild,Wild, West with Will Smith”.
I am finally beginning to understand more and more.
This story, while a bit on the scary and somewhat gory side, really painted a portrait.
It described in detail how a “Tommy” or Automaton was made, and I literally FELT the pain of Jared as he was
I cannot say that I will read many more books like this, but it was a DEFINITE eye opener for me, and
one that I am glad to have had a chance to experience.
My oldest daughter, on the other hand, has read this book and is on her second time through it.
She tells me that she finds it fascinating, and is doing some research for her 8th grade report
on whether situations like she has read are feasible in today’s society, and how something like a “Tommy” for example
would be viewed.
This is a great, entertaining read for young and old, and I do recommend that others read it.
This collection of stories did grow on me, but my wild imagination has centered itself on the pain
that I imagined him feeling in the story, making it difficult to think of much else after reading it.
Be sure to have a happy book or movie on hand after reading!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
