I Wish I Were A Lion
by Dan Jackson
In true Dan Jackson fashion, this book is full of some WONDERFUL photography of Lions.
He has taken a bit of a different turn in writing this with children ages 4-11 in mind.
The tone of the book is different from many others that I have read of his children’s books.
Instead of just writing the facts about these regal and fierce creatures, he
speaks to the children.
My children especially loved that he started each page with
as a Lion what he would like to embody about the lion.
It truly got my son interested and engaged in the reading. He agreed with why
on each page, the author wished her were a lion. It gave us a starting point
on each page to talk about the lions characteristics, and how as a growing boy
he himself could exude some of those characteristics.
This is definitely a great book even for those beginner readers. Most of the words are easy
for them to read, with minimal assistance, yet the book is engaging enough for even the pre-teens.
It is a great learning book, and would be an excellent addition to a Homeschool Curriculum as well.
