Petunia is NOT a princess. She doesn’t want to be fancy or frilly and she certainly doesn’t want another little princess moving in next door. But, when the newest neighbor likes pink and climbing trees, maybe Petunia can make a new friend and stay true to her self.
I love this book for 2 reasons. I personally don’t want my daughter to think that it’s not ok to be herself. Whether she wants to be the frilly girly girl, or she wants to be the rough and tumble tom-boy, I want her to know that it’s ok! I raise my children to be independent, and know that being yourself, no matter who you are, is the only important thing in this world.
I love that the author also shows how important that it is for a little girl to be herself. Petunia wants to be herself. She likes climbing trees, and likes the girly things too. When the girl next door moves in, and they share similar interests! Tom-boys are where it’s AT!
